The BloombergNEF (BNEF) Pioneers program presents an exciting opportunity for innovators to showcase their climate-tech solutions. The program, which will run until 2025, will focus on three specific global climate challenges, as well as wildcard entries that address multiple issues related to decarbonization.

1st Challenge: Towards Making the light industry more sustainable

The first challenge is to make light industry more sustainable. This includes industries such as pulp and paper, food and beverage production, textiles, and glass and ceramics, which contribute significantly to industrial emissions. Innovations in this area could include heat pumps, thermal energy storage, circular economy solutions, and more environmentally friendly feedstocks. These solutions have the potential to reduce emissions and make a significant impact on the sustainability of these industries.

2nd Challenge: Innovation in Energy Storage

The second challenge is focused on innovating energy storage. As the demand for renewable energy grows, so does the need for efficient energy storage technologies. This challenge aims to find solutions that can store electrical, thermal, mechanical, or chemical energy and have applications in power, transport, and industry. Energy storage is not only crucial for balancing power markets and enabling 24/7 clean power, but it is also integral to the growth of the electric vehicle industry and the decarbonization of commercial transportation.

3rd Challenge: Accelerating Climate Adaptation Capabilities

The third and final challenge is aimed at boosting climate adaptation capabilities. These technologies could include improvements in agriculture, water management, energy systems, human health, and disaster response.

Wild Card Challenge: You Choose How To Address Climate Change

In addition to these three challenges, the BNEF Pioneers program also welcomes wildcard submissions. These wildcard entries can cover any issue that helps address climate change, and BNEF encourages submissions from all climate-tech solutions.

Innovators with scalable, impactful, and equitable solutions to these challenges are encouraged to apply to the Pioneers program, with applications closing on November 1, 2024. Additional details on eligibility and how applications are judged can be found on the BNEF Pioneers program website. Good Luck!
